May 5, 2009

Futures in Biotech 42 – Sneezing Pandemic

is just out via Leo Laporte, Dr. Marc Pelletier and Randal Schwartz.

The guest is Dr. Vincent Racaniello, Ph.D.,  a professor of Microbiology at the  Columbia University Medical Center.

They will discuss Mexican Swine Flu (politically correctly renamed H1N1)

It should be interesting and timely.

There is a fair amount of buzz…

Will Adam Carolla come back to Loveline?

Dr Drew twittered on the show (He and Olivia Munn) expressing concern over Loveline ratings.   It’s a no brainer to long time fans that Adam’s return would be just what the doctor ordered.

“Hey ever-body…I’m Adam Carolla and over there is Dr Drew… board certified physician.. and addiction medicine specialist….”

Oh, to hear that opener…. again.

It’s been a long painful time since November 2005.

FYI – Heise Security in the UK has Windows Update Patch Disk for Download

January 12, 2008

I heard about this recently on SecurityNow with Steve Gibson and Leo Laporte. I havent done this yet and it’s strictly use at your own risk. It is available from Heise Security in the UK and is for download.

From what I have heard, it makes it possible to download a disk that would have Windows updates up to a certain date.

http://www.heise-security.co.uk/articles/80682

Why would you want this? If you have to setup machines from scratch. It supposedly will make it much easier to get the new install caught up to a certain date with the Windows patches.

Windows already has a Service Pack2 available and there is a Service Pack 3 that will contain as I understand it the patches since Service Pack 2. However, as I understand it, the Service Pack3 hasnt been available for download yet.

So, in the meantime, you might check this out.

Credit to Leo Laporte that has covered the tech and computer industry for many years and is probably most known for the Screen Savers tech shows on cable over the years. Leo has an awesome network of podcasts now including this one with Steve at twit.tv

http://twit.tv

Steve Gibson is the maker of Spinrite which may be able to help you recover a damaged hard drive or help it not get in a mess to start off with… and also famous for ShieldsUp and other utilities that help with computers and security.

Tavis Smiley (PBS)

September 11, 2007

A few words to pay tribs to a relatively new talkshow on PBS that I like a lot.

Tavis Smiley has a one on one interview show and reminds me a great deal of Charlie Rose. He has a very hip, relavent guest line up.

Very cool show check it out!

It seems to be a on a weird and changing schedule so I haven’t watched this show as much as I would like.

The Daily GizWiz…Dick DeBartolo…(MAD)

August 26, 2007

Just a few words to pay tribs to lifelong humorist and now  gadget xxxx  , No, wait!! it’s the guy that just knows a whole really lot about gadgets that may or may not be electronic) Dick DeBartolo. I’ve been listening to his show (The Daily Giz Wiz with Leo Laporte) for a year or so now and…

Dick is also the lead with MAD magazine whose humor I immediately clicked with many years ago.

Catch their (Dick and Leo) podcast for your mp3 player or ipod at

http://twit.tv and look along the right side of that page for the link to the current and archive podcasts of the show.

Also, you’ll think…didn’t I see him on ABC World News Now….and you’d be correct… and Regis and all kinda radio shows.

Check out Dick DeBartolo’s main site at

http://gizwiz.biz

And on a historical note…he was a writer for the legendary Match Game with Gene Rayburn (and I guess Burt Convey and ______ others…hahaha)

Thanks so much Dick for all your good work and for making us stop and laugh along the way!
