Thank God You’re Here…(NBC new)

March 29, 2007

Thank God You’re Here is set to start April 9 on NBC.

It looks like a redo of a popular show from Australia

See http://www.tgyh.com.au

Basically celebrity actors walk into a scene where they must immediately improvise their action and dialogue.

First promotional clips show Newman (Wayne Knight) and George (Jason Alexander) from Seinfeld fame.

The show’s idea seems a bit like Drew Carey’s Whose Line is it anyway?

David Alan Grier is the host (I so want to see “In Living Color [the first few seasons] again.) He is ok as host, but it doesn’t compare to the energy from Men on Film.

There was one judge. (name..to remind myself of later, Dave Foley?)

The judging felt like a weird mix of Dancing with the Stars and American Idol (neither do I get excited about….more of this horrible reality, let America vote..crapola) however the judge made all the decisions (no voting..yet)

I’ll give it a 6 out of 10 so far. I’m hopeful that it will pick up steam for next week. It’s on NBC on Monday after “Deal or No Deal”, although I read somewhere that the official time slot will be Tuesday.

More to come as it develops…

Wierd Hexagon pattern on Saturn’s North Pole…

March 29, 2007

Evidently this was first noted several years ago, but the Cassini space probe now has a much better complete view of a Hexagon shape on the North Pole of the planet Saturn.

http://www.jpl.nasa.gov/news/news.cfm?release=2007-034

Saturn is already unique being the only planet with rings and now this odd Hexagon that evidently goes 60 miles down into its north pole atmosphere.

More on this as it develops…

Honoring Richard Jeni

March 28, 2007

I was listening to an mp3 download from Adam Carolla’s new free-fm radio show in LA when he mentioned the recent passing of veteran comedian Richard Jeni. Seemed like a pretty cool guy, was very funny and will certainly be missed by all. My prayers go out to the family and friends.

See http://www.richardjeni.com/

where fans and friends can post a note if they’d like.

CSI: Miami…Weekends

March 27, 2007

Just a few words on a reasonably new show that is growing on me. It continues to impress!

CSI: Miami with David Caruso as Horatio Cane. This is a key show in a new breed of detective shows centered on forensic science abilities.   Then there are the hallmark scenes, where Horatio takes on and off the shades…Yep, its ON now…

Other actors on the show include: Emily Proctor (hottie forensic lab/field tech babe Calleigh), Adam Rodriguez and Jonathon Togo.  Just found Emily’s official site. Check it out.

http://www.emilyprocter.com/

I grew up on the police and detective shows of the 70’s and 80’s…That spanned a range of: Manix, Dragnet, Columbo, Barretta, Starsky and Hutch, Kojak, Cannon, Streets of San Francisco, Quincy and SWAT, Barney Miller (with Abe Vigoda), Hill Street Blues and Magnum P.I.

CSI is perhaps closer to vintage Quincy with Jack Clugman.

Props to producer Jerry Bruckheimer on a cool show!

BTW, gotta like the CSI: Miami theme song from the Who.

“Yeeeeeaaahhhhh…we won’t get fooled….again…………won’t get fooled again …..Oh no……”

I saw the other CSI with Melina Kanakaredes but wasn’t nearly as impressed with that one.

Besides, if life worked like it should, she should still be Dr. Sidney Hanson on Providence…which was a VERY cool yet slightly goofy and quirky show that lasted a few seasons. That show had a cool theme song too. (I need to do a “in memoriam” on Providence)

************

CSI:NY weekends now…  That stinks…  We want Horatio and Calleigh…

Ray Walston…Always made me laugh

March 25, 2007

Im memoriam, a few words to honor the late Ray Walston.

He was on “My Favorite Martian”, but I remember him largely from his hit role as Mr. Hand across from Sean Penn (Jeff Spicoli) in Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

One of several classic lines from the movie….

At the end of the year, Mr. Hand is helping Spicoli

to try and catch up in his history class…

and says that Jeff is wasting his time…

Spicoli: Uh Mr. Hand, I’ve been thinking…

Since it’s your time…and my time….Isn’t it our time?

Mr. Hand…..thinks everyone is on drugs….

Salute again to…Mr.Hand

Uhh, What’s on your Ipod?

Doing the math…a sidebar….

March 18, 2007

The US is marking its fourth year in Iraq.

We hear about car bombers there almost every single day on the news.

Since I have recently spent a lot of time keeping my older car running, It occured to me… Ok, I’m starting to think like George Carlin…But…. 4 *365 =1460

Where are they getting all of these expendable cars?

It would be interesting to know what makes and models are more popular.

Are they all crappy Pintos from the 70’s? or perhaps A few Ford Fiestas? or Dodge Dart or Chevy Geos or the dreaded Plymouth Neon? (Pinto…kind of ahead of its time…huh)

And…, I don’t think crazy Khaleid is gonna take his dad’s imported Lexus down to the Death to Amrica rally.

And not only expendable cars…but expendable nutty relatives to drive them?

Darwin would predict that we would run out of both?

Hey, I thnk this disproves evolution….

George, if this ends up in one of your bits, give Hmmm a plug.

How many days…til Rosie gets the boot? (Uh, about 90)

Barack Obama and John Edwards have Twitter accounts?

March 16, 2007

Barck Obama and John Edwards have Twitter accounts?

Or some of their staffers? or are these just silly bots set up by some doufuss with nothing better to do?

See the Borat, Janina (MsDewey.com), Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and other fake twitters…

http://www.twitter.com

Regardless of the source…they seem not to be used much.

Sigh…

Per CNN…Barack Obama was kin to who?

March 4, 2007

I was listening to CNN today where they kept rerunning a story proporting that Barck Obama was desended from white slave owners.

What is the relevance of this story? Does this even matter?
I guess it’s a complete co-inky-dink that Mr. Obama (and his family) have committed themselves to his 2008 run as candidate for the Democratic Party’s nomination for President of the United States.

So, now I need to keep hearing (over and over) about who was banging who in the 1800’s? Really? Does it even matter? Is it “material” or “relevant” to anything? Would a mere sitting senator from Illinois have motivated anyone to be paid to (or perhaps get my hard earned tax money) to do this research?

Last week we had to get “breaking news” that Al Sharpton was descended from deceased Senator Strom Thurmond.

Once again. Does it really matter who was banging who in the 1800’s?

So now we are supposed to wait on pins and needles to see if the Obama story ties him to Strom Thurmond too?

This Obama descendents story was another unfortunate example of an out of control media.

I suppose to be balanced during a political campaign, that I should also be burdened by our media’s “breaking news” about the descendents of Senator Clinton and Senator McCain and Rudolph Guilliani….Really? Sure bring it on!!

It is equally relevant to the bigger issues that average Americans are worried about right about now.

Thanks CNN for that crack reporting work. Encore!!

Ahmmm
